Māoriland Film Festival 2022

E ngā tai e whā o te motu, e ngā iwi taketake o te ao,

 Tēnā koutou katoa,

Since Covid’s arrival on our planet in 2020, Māoriland Film Festival has adapted and evolved. And with the support of filmmakers and audiences we’ve been able to safely deliver the MFF in-person in 2020 and 2021.

The in-person interactions at MFF are integral to the experience of Māoriland. Coming together as filmmakers and audiences to share Indigenous language and cultures is about inspiration and celebration.

And so, with Aotearoa currently in the red setting because of Omicron we have made the decision to postpone the ninth Māoriland Film Festival to June/July 2022 to coincide with Matariki – the Māori New Year.

He iti hau marangai e tū te pāhokahoka – there may be a little storm, but in the end there is a rainbow.

For our community of filmmakers and here in Ōtaki, and for all our  regular attendees of the MFF – we understand that this news may be disappointing. When we gather at Matariki it will be a joyful celebration of Indigenous creativity.

We will be announcing the new dates for MFF2022 and our full festival programme in the coming weeks. In the meantime, our team at Māoriland hopes that you, your whānau and community stay well and safe.

Kia noho ora pai tātou katoa
