Welcome to Māoriland, the home of Indigenous storytelling in Aotearoa.
Māoriland operates year-round out of the Māoriland Hub and each March welcomes the world to Ōtaki for the annual Māoriland Film Festival, Aotearoa’s International Indigenous Film Festival.
MĀORILAND FILM FESTIVAL
Māoriland Film Festival (MFF) is Aotearoa’s International Indigenous Film Festival celebrating Indigenous voices and storytelling in film. Each March, Māoriland brings Indigenous films and their creators to Ōtaki on Aotearoa’s (New Zealand) Kāpiti Coast for five days of screenings, workshops, art exhibitions and special events.
MĀORILAND HUB
The Māoriland Hub operates 7 days a week as a multi-purpose cinema and arts space.
The Māoriland Hub celebrates Indigenous voices and perspectives as well as collaborations with Indigenous artists as key creatives.
The Māoriland Hub is a place where kaupapa are shared to nourish our community.

INDIGENOUS STORY TELLERS
Indigenous films are works created by individuals or groups of people who self-identify as Indigenous. Indigenous Peoples are also known as Tangata Whenua, Aboriginal, Native Peoples, First Peoples or Tribal Peoples and are characterised by language, enduring spiritual and cultural beliefs and practices, and a close connection to lands and/or territories.

The Maoriland Charitable Trust is actively committed to highlighting the environmental issues and sustainability of the natural world about us.
The Māoriland Film festival attracts over 12,500 people to events and movies – that is a large amount of waste to be responsible for.
We understand the impact the Maoriland Film Festival has on our town, and believe this is a shared responsibility.
MĀORILAND CHARITABLE TRUST
The Māoriland Charitable Trust operates the Māoriland Film Festival and Māoriland Hub.
Established in October 2017, the Māoriland Hub operates on tikanga Māori principals. It is the income generator for the Māoriland Charitable Trust. The strategic plan for both the Māoriland Hub and the Māoriland Film Festival includes growing the social, economic and cultural opportunities and benefits for the town of Ōtaki.
