In Sons of Blackbird, poet Lastman So’oula reflects on his days working a factory line and feelings of mistreatment and exploitation, with references to “blackbirding”, the practice of kidnapping of Pacific Islanders to be used as forced labour.

  • Director Bio Director Onehou has been a member of South Auckland Poets Collective for 5+ years which is where she first connected with Lastman and heard his poem ‘Blackbird.’ With a diploma in Creative Writing and experience on writers tables such as Tongue Tied, Shortland Street. As well as being a story liner and scripter for web series Ahikaaroa, working alongside Lastman to adapt his poetry has been an easy collaboration.
