Shrek Kātahi Te Korokē Rauemi

A behind-the-scenes look at the making of Shrek – Kātahi te Korokē – the reo Māori reversioning of the iconic animated film.

Created by Māoriland, this resource shares the creative journey of bringing Shrek to life in Te Reo Māori— from translation and casting to performance and production. By reimagining this beloved story in te reo Māori, Māoriland aims to engage audiences, young and old, from die-hard Shrek fans to fluent speakers and new learners of te reo.

The film premiered to packed audiences at the Māoriland Film Festival in March 2025, followed by a national tour and a nationwide broadcast on TVNZ on Matariki National Day 2025.

From July 2025 Shrek Kātahi te Kōreke is available at cinemas across Aotearoa.
