Ka Rere Te Manu – E Tū Whānau Rangatahi Film Awards 2025

The E Tū Whānau Rangatahi Film Awards invites rangatahi to create and submit short films that reflect one or more of the core values of E Tū Whānau:

Aroha – Giving with no expectation of return
 
Whanaungatanga – It’s about being connected
 
Whakapapa – Knowing who you are and where you belong
 
Mana Manaaki – Building the mana of others through nurturing, growing and challenging
 
Kōrero Awhi – Positive communication and actions
 
Tikanga – Doing things the right way, according to our value

ENTRY DETAILS

Who can enter?

Rangatahi acrosss three age groups:

  • Pīpī Paopao (Under 14)

  • Pīrere (Under 18)

  • Manu Tāiko (Ages 18 – 25)

 
Deadline for submissions:
  •  June 8th, 2025
 
Film Length:
  • Up to 5 minutes maximum
 
Genre:
  • Any genre – just make sure your film is aligned with at least one of the E Tū Whānau kaupapa.
 
Entry Form
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a completed entry form (link or email to be provided separately).

GETTING STARTED!

You can use any device – smartphones, tablets, cameras. High-tech gear isn’t necessary. 

Prioritise clear sound – test your setup before filming.

Explore free editing apps – look up options suited to your device (e.g. iMovie, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Shotcut).

Your film must state which kaupapa you are representing (Aroha, Whanaungatanga, Whakapapa, Mana Manaaki, Kōrero Awhi, Tikanga) – this can appear as text at the end of your film (e.g., white text on black screen).

PERMISSIONSVERY IMPORTANT!

To be eligible for public screening at the Māoriland Film Festival:
 
  • You must have permission from everyone who appears in your film (this is a Talent Release Form).
  • If filming in a private or controlled public space (like a home, school, supermarket, etc.), you must also have a Location Release Form.
  • We can provide these forms if needed – just reach out.
