KA RERE TE MANU
E TŪ WHĀNAU RANGATAHI FILM CHALLENGE
As Māori, we have the solutions to shape the future we want to live in
Our stories hold power
The E Tū Whānau Rangatahi Film CHALLENGE is your chance to rise to the challenge – to celebrate who we are, where we come from, and the values that guide us.
Make a film (up to 5 minutes) that reflects one of the E Tū Whānau kaupapa – Aroha, Whanaungatanga, Whakapapa, Mana manaaki, Kōrero awhi, Tikanga
Any style – drama, doco, animation, spoken word – whatever speaks to you.
Submit by June 8, 2025.
ENTRIES WILL BE CELEBRATED AT THE KA RERE TE MANU AWARDS IN LATE JUNE.
You don’t need flash gear – just your voice, your vision, and your whakaaro. This is about celebrating rangatahi perspectives and making space for Māori solutions, led by Māori.
Ka rere te manu – let your ideas take flight.

MAKE YOUR FILM
You can use any device – smartphones, tablets, cameras. High-tech gear isn’t necessary.
Prioritise clear sound – test your setup before filming.
Explore free editing apps – look up options suited to your device (e.g. iMovie, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, Shotcut).
Your film must state which kaupapa you are representing (Aroha, Whanaungatanga, Whakapapa, Mana Manaaki, Kōrero Awhi, Tikanga) – this can appear as text at the end of your film (e.g., white text on black screen).
WHO CAN ENTER?
- Pīpī Paopao (Under 14)
- Pīrere (Under 18)
- Manu Tāiko (Ages 18 – 25)
