Dance Classes for Rangatahi at the Māoriland Hub – 3 Day Dance Camp and follow up classes with Bianca Hyslop.
Join esteemed dance artist and choreographer Bianca Hyslop for a 3 day ‘Dance Camp’ followed by 3 classes in term 1, 2022. Limited spaces are available for this exciting chance to learn from a renowned talent and to meet others interested in dance. Dance Camp is 3 consecutive days of 3 hour sessions followed by 3 after school classes spread across February, March and April to reunite and build on skills.
During Dance Camp tauira will participate in;
Contemporary Technique Class: 1 hour, consisting of a warm up, stability exercises, floor-work, standing exercises, locomoting across the floor, building into phrase-work.
Games: To get to know your peers and to have fun while developing sensitivity and awareness to how we interact with space and others around us.
Choreography: Creative tasks will be given to start to build and develop techniques in the area of dance making.
There will be no formal presentation but instead the main focus will be on play, connection with each other and finding the joy of dance!
The Dance Camp will be followed up by Three 2 x hour sessions in Term 1 to delve deeper into Contemporary dance techniques and Choreography.

Te Reo O Te Kori Tinana is FREE to attend for registered tauira. Participants over the age of 13 must be vaccinated for COVID-19 to attend.
Participants must commit to attending all three days of Dance Camp and the three follow up classes.
Only 10 spaces in each class. Places will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
Bianca Hyslop (Te Arawa/Ngāti Whakaue/Tūhourangi/Ngāti Wāhiao/Pākeha) (Tup Lang Choreographic Award 2019, CNZ) is a freelance artist/dancer/choreographer. She has worked specifically within the Māori Contemporary Dance Sector for over ten years and been involved in highly influential dance projects including indigenous development, cultural research and cross cultural laboratories for interdisciplinary art makers gracing the national and international stage with the likes of Atamira Dance Company and Okareka Dance Company.
