‘Toi is Rongoā’ – Screenprinting and Sewing Workshop 2022

Do you need some time out to yourself? Are you looking for a safe space to socialise and create something special at the same time?
Our world is changing rapidly and surviving is at the forefront living in a pandemic environment. With this in mind creative spaces creating joy and a sense of unity is uplifting. The Māoriland Hub is the place to be. Nau mai haramai!
This workshop teaches basic screenprinting and sewing. How to have lots of fun printing on fabric and making it into something fabulous! Just what is needed to let go of the stresses of life!
By the end of this free 6 hour workshop, participants will have completed a functional textile artwork led by the amazing, funtastic artist, quilter and storyteller Ron Te Kawa (Ngāti Porou).
If you’re not familiar with Ron’s mahi, visit his current exhibition at Mahara Iti Gallery in Waikanae, open until the end of September.
Whāinga/Learning Outcomes:
– Participants will make either a textile artwork such as a wall hanging
– Upcycle and embellish a textile item of choice
– Whānau and community learn new making skills
– Participants express whanaungatanga through collaborating ideas and creations where whānau is at the centre of well-being
Most materials and equipment provided.
WHAT TO BRING? Sewing machine, sharp scissors and fabric.
Participants are invited to bring a shared lunch.
Registration is a must, spaces are limited. Ages 12+, children must be accompanied by an adult.
