Content producer

Are you passionate about creating content that tells a story? We’re looking for a graphic designer and/or content producer to join our team as Kaitautoko Auaha.

In this role you’ll produce unique, engaging content and promotional materials highlighting Māori and Indigenous voices across a range of mediums and platforms. With a collaborative spirit and a self-driven approach, you’ll work alongside our Hōnonga Pūrākau to promote gigs and events at the Māoriland Hub, Indigenous art in Toi Matarau Gallery, launch new films and content with Māoriland Productions and promote Māoriland Film Festival. 

We’re looking for someone with strong design skills, fluency in Te Reo Māori, and a love for creativity. Sound like you? 

Kaitautoko Auaha (Creative Support Lead)

Term of Employment: Annual contract – 30 – 40 hours a week (negotiable)

Description:

Māoriland is a centre of excellence for Māori & Indigenous Film & Creativity. Owned and operated by Māoriland Charitable Trust from the Māoriland Hub in Ōtaki, the organisation exists for the social, cultural, and economic benefit of our community in Ōtaki and for Māori and Indigenous storytellers worldwide. Māoriland’s work includes Toi Matarau Gallery, Māoriland Productions, M.A.T.C.H – the Māoriland Tech Creative Hub, and the Māoriland Maara and Kai Collective. These activities are celebrated annually at the Māoriland Film Festival – the largest international Indigenous Film Festival in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Kaitautoko Auaha is a creative content production role focused on designing and producing visually engaging materials for Māoriland’s activities, including films, events and gigs. This includes designing and printing posters, crafting marketing assets, social media reels, and other multimedia content and maintaining our websites to vividly convey the Māoriland story across various platforms. 

The ideal candidate is self-driven, highly motivated, and able to complete tasks without supervision while maintaining strong communication to ensure alignment across the team.

Responsibilities:

Content Production & Creative Development:

  • Develop and produce innovative and engaging content for Māoriland’s website and social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
  • Create fun and outside-the-box promotional materials for Māoriland events and activities, ensuring materials are accurate, accessible and engaging. 
  • Experiment with new content formats and creative approaches to engage diverse audiences.

Digital Marketing:

  • Maintain and update Māoriland websites with fresh, engaging content.

Promotions and Distribution:

  • Monitor and analyse campaign performance, adapting strategies to stay ahead of trends and resonate with target audiences.

Autonomous Workflow:

  • Drive projects from concept to completion with minimal supervision, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative in identifying content opportunities and executing them effectively.
  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritising workload to meet deadlines.

Team Collaboration:

  • Maintain clear and open communication with the Māoriland Comms team to ensure everyone is aligned and informed on ongoing projects.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas that enhance the overall strategy.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Proficiency in Te Reo Māori.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a similar content production role.
  • Creativity with a proven record of producing fun, engaging, and innovative content.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Experience in graphic design, with proficiency in Adobe Suite platforms: Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Proficiency in video editing and content creation for social media.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • Experience with WordPress, Mailchimp, and SEO.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and complete tasks without supervision.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
