Koanga
One of the joys of the maara is the buzz about the place as the warmer longer days arrive and people come help out. Wednesday mornings (9.30 am-11.30 am) have a generous crew who may or may not turn up as they wish, you can do a bit of mahi maara without too much pressure! We grow kai for our community and make it available at the Kaibosh table outside Toi Matarau.
Kaibosh is an awesome food rescue organisation with a base in Paraparaumu, where close-dated good kai comes in from supermarkets and various other parts of the food industry. BP are a stop-off on the kaibosh pick up run, and they know Ōtaki rangatahi love crispy creams so pretty often there’s a lot come our way. Today there were boxes upon boxes of doughnuts and, being school holidays, I didn’t have our reliable rangatahi cohort coming out of kura at 3:00 pm. It was a nice excuse to pop in at Te Mauri Haa, the beautiful, choice, “everybody’s favourite truck-lounge” at the beach…if you haven’t checked these guys out, do! Stop in for a cuppa with the best view in town. I also visited the library, supplementing the iced treats with healthy apples which may not have been the kids first choice I suspect! The Citizens Advice Office next. Odds and bods in the park on the way.
Guys, we live in such a friendly, awesome town. Get out there and have fun this spring and summer. Soon we will recover from this daylight savings lag! …and I am looking forward to that lovely, everyone at the beach at the end of the day thing, and walking my mates wee scruff of a dog!
