Māoriland Digital and Print Marketing Coordinator Internship
We’re seeking a creative and self-motivated individual to join our marketing team at Māoriland for a 12-week paid workplace training programme.
In this role, you will collaborate with our Hononga Pūrakau (Storyteller Connector) to share the Māoriland kaupapa with the world. Your responsibilities will include creating and scheduling content, designing posters and ads, and promoting our initiatives.
You’ll develop and refine your skills on the job while working on real-world marketing campaigns, from live music events to film distribution and the Māoriland Film Festival. We’re looking for someone eager to get creative, grow their abilities, and make a meaningful impact within a supportive kaupapa Māori environment at the Māoriland Hub.

Key Responsibilities and Skill Development Areas:
- Social Media Scheduling & Strategy
- Manage daily scheduling and posting across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, X), using data-driven insights to optimise content performance.
- Develop expertise in aligning social media activity with broader marketing campaigns, ensuring a cohesive online presence.
- Content Creation & Visual Storytelling
- Enhance content creation skills by producing high-quality visual and written content that reflects Māori culture and Māoriland’s kaupapa.
- Utilise tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, and video editing software (CapCut, Premiere Pro) to create engaging graphics, videos, and interactive social media posts.
- Develop the ability to tell compelling Indigenous stories through digital media, enriching cultural narratives online.
- Graphic Design for Digital and Print Media
- Refine graphic design skills by creating a range of digital and print assets, including banners, posters, brochures, and social media graphics.
- Collaborate with team members to bring design concepts to life, meeting marketing objectives and community engagement goals.
- Outdoor Advertising and Print Media
- Create physical marketing materials such as posters, flyers, and billboards, understanding the technical aspects of print production and outdoor advertising logistics.
- Gain experience in coordinating advertising campaigns that combine both digital and physical touchpoints.
- Campaign Coordination & Project Management
- Apply organisational skills to follow timelines, content calendars, and deadlines across multiple projects.
- Collaborate with Māoriland’s marketing and creative teams to ensure seamless execution of marketing campaigns, including events and exhibitions.
- Develop expertise in project management, handling multiple tasks while maintaining a clear understanding of campaign objectives.

Throughout the internship, you will sharpen your skills in digital marketing, graphic design, and content creation while building a portfolio of work tied directly to Māoriland’s high-profile projects. By the end of the programme, successful participants will be well-equipped to transition into a full-time role at Māoriland, continuing their career journey within the creative and cultural industries.
Teina-Tuakana Relationship:
Under the guidance of our Hononga Pūrakau, an experienced marketing professional, participants (Teina) will receive one-on-one mentorship, developing their skills through real-world tasks. This tuakana-teina model promotes reciprocal growth, where rangatahi are supported in refining their expertise while contributing fresh ideas and perspectives.
Ongoing Opportunities and Networking:
Participants will gain industry exposure through site visits, networking events, and collaborations. Upon completing the programme, you may have an opportunity to continue working at Māoriland, taking on greater responsibilities and establishing your place within the organisation.
Location: Māoriland Hub, 68 Main Street, Ōtaki
Hours: 30 hours a week, Monday to Friday (open to negotiation)
Attendance is required for the successful completion of the programme.

- Māori aged 18 and above (this program is funded by the Māori Trades Training Program)
