Caring for Papatūānuku at Māoriland Film Festival
Well, we scrubbed and we washed and laughed and we sighed but we did it! Caring for our earth is a collective effort.
Thanks to our combined commitment during the MFF 2018 together we diverted 244kgs of waste from the landfill!
Tu meke e hoa mā!
We buried and composted our serve ware and food waste returning as much as we could back to our earth to assist with nutrient recycling systems.
Glass, plastic, and tin was recycled at our local recycling station
Cardboard was recycled with the trees for paper programme at our local hospice shop.
Some of the copious numbers of coffee cups were cleaned and will be used to grow seedlings in.
What we learned:
- Coffee cups and lid waste is excessive and preventable
- Single-use plastic drink bottles are unnecessary
- Signage helps
- Remembering our re-useables is key
We can do better!
Flick us any suggestions to [email protected] and we will endeavour to incorporate into MFF 2019.
A big shout out to Lucy’s Bins, Parakore, KCDC for supplying our bins. Legends.
