|Excited to be participating in the Kāpiti Arts Trail for a second year, Toi Matarau Gallery is proud to present new works by current and invited artists. Ngā Aho Whenua resident weavers; Sonia Snowden and Pip Devonshire demonstrate raranga onsite with local weavers Hinepūororangi Tahupārae and others as well as Rongoā practitioners of the region.
Mandated by the five hapū of Ōtaki, Māoriland continues to engage descendants of the three confederated iwi, Ngāti Raukawa Te Au ki Te Tonga, Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Toarangatira and neighbouring, whānau hapū and iwi spanning across regions and from around Aotearoa.
An event hosted over two consecutive weekends at the beginning of November, this is a great opportunity for weekend visitors to see and experience Māoriland, a centre of excellence for multi-disciplinary art forms by Māori and indigenous creatives and innovators. A diverse range of toi Māori in the Toi Matarau Gallery has something special for everyone, from small gifts to larger scale installations for those redecorating or renovating their homes. View some of the most exquisite artworks of Kāpiti housed within the whare of Māoriland, Ōtaki.
Also includes Raranga Demonstration work onsite with Sonia Snowden, Pip Devonshire, and Hinepūororangi Tahupārae as well as rongoā Māori by Donna Te Kira.
